Is Chamakh on his way back to France this summer?

|

Ligue 1 outfit Marseille are set to offer Arsenal’s Marouane Chamakh an escape route back to France after the striker’s mixed first season in English football, according to talkSPORT.

Reports in France have revealed that the 27-year-old Moroccan is on top of the Ligue 1 clubs wish list this summer, and are already drawing up a transfer plan for the forward when the window opens.

Chamakh joined the Gunners from Bordeaux last summer on a free, but after an impressive start for the Gunners, the Moroccan international has struggled to cement a regular place in Arsene Wenger’ side, especially with Robin van Persie regaining fitness.

With Chamakh currently warming the bench at Arsenal, it now seems that Marseille, who currently sit second place in Ligue 1, could be a realistic destination for the striker, especially with the promise of regular first-team football in mind.

Chamakh has managed to bag 11 goals in 40 appearances (26 starts, 14 from the bench) so far for the North London club. However, since the turn of the year, Arsenal’s number 29 has only managed to appear once in the Premier League, and more significantly, has been unable to net a top-flight goal since November.

In my opinion, I don’t think it has been an unusual first season for the striker, purely for the fact that I personally believe he was brought to the club as a cover option for Robin van Persie, nothing more. He was picked by Wenger to spearhead the attack whilst Robin was sidelined through injury, but since the Dutchman’s return, Chamakh has rarely been seen, which reinforces my claim further. Both strikers are fit, yet only RVP starts in Wenger’s side.

Chamakh did extremely well up-front before the turn of the year, and bagged some vital goals for Arsenal which was great to see, but I truly believe reality has set in for the Moroccan, hence why these days he’s warming the Arsenal bench.

Reports suggest that the French club could offer around £8 million for Chamakh’s services this summer. I have nothing against the lad, but if these reports are accurate, then I believe Wenger should seriously consider selling the Moroccan, especially for that price.

Tel u wat, if Marsaille ar serious about MC29 then I believe Arsene should consider letting the lad go, havin Walcott set to be striking next season, Bendtner, RvP11 and the likes of Carlos Vela set to return from Loan, its beta if they release him, FROM FREE TO £8MIL, come oon man let MC29 go have fun in France.

I think he should be given a chance, everyone forgets when van Persie got injured he was the one scoring goals and helping us win games. I’m not saying he will be a great player but needs to be given a chance.

well said Rock. The lad should be given a chance. Robin is injury prone, Chamakh is a good cover…

i like the guys attitude, but he is short on a number of attributes at arsenal level. He is not quick enough (pace and quick feet), he is not tough enough and he isnt a natural goalscorer. He is very good in the air so he would suit a crossing side or a long ball side.
8million is good arsenal business..its the only thing that we do better than our rivals….making money on transfers!

£8M would be good busines considering we got him for nothing last summer…sell him Wenger
