Arsene Wenger – stubborn or purely thrifty?

|

Arsene Wenger believes that his red and white army doesn’t require any ‘massive’ changes, according to Sky Sports.

The thrifty manager is convinced that with a few tweaks here and there, the team will be able to compete for the title and not just a spot in the top four. Wenger said:

‘I feel there is always a need to improve the team, but if you look at our season you cannot come to the conclusion we need a massive change. That would be completely stupid. We live in a world where when you are the second best by a little everybody says you are rubbish. It is not true. That is the modern world, but it is not the reality.’

He continued:

‘We are there, but because we have not won trophies people destroy us completely. What is good in our world is that everybody is bankrupt, but the guy who doesn’t spend is an idiot.’

The media these days have been flooding the Frenchman with hurtful criticism since Arsenal’s trophy drought commenced. Even Tottenham’s manager, Harry Redknapp, defended Wenger and his Arsenal achievements. Yes, I said achievements. Don’t you think he achieved enough as a manager? Up to this day, Arsenal are sitting on the throne holding the ‘undefeated’ title. Not Manchester United. Not Chelsea. Arsenal.

Now back to the spending issue. And I emphasize on the word ‘issue’ here. I am personally a great fan of Wenger, and a loyal follower of his ways. But there’s a limit to everything and I believe the Arsenal boss has crossed that limit. I do understand that we are still in debt due to the big move from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium, but a manager of Wenger’s calibre has the ability to make POSITIVE changes to the club. The Frenchman said:

‘Our target was to build a new stadium without dropping from the top. We knew it would be a difficult period for four or five years, so we had to make a decision how can we maintain the top with less money available. For me we did well. Now, of course, people become impatient. I can understand that completely because I am impatient as well – that is why you see me agitated.’

I believe that this time is now upon Wenger. The club has a new owner who is willing to sacrifice £40 million for the Arsenal boss to go on a shopping spree this summer. Some players have proven themselves unworthy of holding the Arsenal emblem to their chests and they know it. You, Mr. Wenger, have the opportunity of making a difference at the club. Your players haven’t taken their share of opportunities in matches recently…don’t repeat their mistakes.

i think wenger needs to get to grip with his philosophy nobody is asking for ronaldo, we want players who are committed, nobody is asking for major change but everyone can see we are lacking our team do not have balance fabregas is becoming frustrated, as his comments suggest, wenger wake up defensively it needs a overhaul our attack needs a qulity striker not bentdner if we all can see this why cant you we want change, if we go don fighting and not win anything then all supporters will say well done, unfourtunately we have seen a lack of committment

Ok then if Fab4 finally goes to Barcelona for £40 mil’ why don’t we offer Arshavin + Bendtner for Schweinsteiger? Everyones a winner. Stan wants to give us a warchest to strengthen so that actually means we’d have £80 mil’. Get Hazard and Falcao for £30 mil’ and perhaps Inler for another £10 mil’. By my reckoning that’d mean we haven’t spent a thing AND brought in some top quality players that create competition in the squad and gives us the best chance of winning things next season. What a line up for £0!!!
    First team – 4-1-4-1
    Szcezney
    Sagna
    Djourou
    TV5
    Clichy
    Inler
    Nasri
    Wilshere
    Schweisteiger
    Hazard
    Falcao

    Subs –
    Fabianski/Manone
    Koscielny/Bartley
    Botelho/Gibbs
    Song/Frompong
    Ramsey/Diaby
    Walcott/Ryo
    RVP/Vela/JET

*I’ve not put put RVP in the starting line up as he’ll get injured for half a season and averages 17 games per season, But if he’s fit you could could easily change the formation to 4-1-3-2. We’d actually have a PLAN B too.

I think we do need some changes at Arsenal, I personally think we to sort out the full back positions as they are constantly making defensive mistakes and can’t cross a ball to save there lives. I think Baines is possibly the best left back in the country and I think Arsenal should consider doing a straight swoop deal with Everton for Baines and Clichy. We should also sell Sagna or Eboue and buy Gregory van der Wiel.

I still think the centre back position is still weak and we should buy Gary Cahill help solidify the defence. Could you imagine Vermaelen and Cahill together. No one would get past that defence.

We also lack a player that will score 25 goals a season and I think Sergio Aguero is that striker that will do this. I know we have van Persie and I believe he can score 25 goals a season but lets face it he is always injured. I know we could play Walcott and van Persie upfront but they are likely to get injured during the season.

I also think Arsenal need to invest in a winger like Eden Hazard. We have players getting on in age and we lack creative players when Fabregas isn’t playing. We also need another defensive midfielder as we lack them. I would personally go for Inler or De Jong.

40 million plus the sales of Diaby, Denilson, Rosicky, Squillaci, Alunmia, Sagna, Clichy, Bendtner should be enough to get these players. If not I’m sure if Wenger were to ask the board for more money then they would give it to him. But lets face it he won’t do this or improve the squad by one unknown player, so we might as well get used to it.
