Would £7M rated Mario Gavranovic be an astute acquisition for Arsenal this summer?

|

The German press have reported that Arsene Wenger is eyeing up a summer move for £7 million rated Schalke striker Mario Gavranovic, according to talkSPORT.

The 21-year-old Swiss forward, who has been a key figure for the Bundersliga outfit in the Champions League this season, has also been highly recommended to Wenger by Arsenal centre-back Johan Djourou.

Gavranovic managed to bag 8 goals in 17 appearances for Swiss club Neuchâtel Xamax before making his switch to Schalke in February 2010. However, since his winter move to Germany, Gavranovic has managed to appear 6 times (4 from the bench) for Schalke’s first-team and has so far failed to score in the Bundersliga.

Gavranovic is currently a member of the Switzerland Under-21 squad, but due to his Croatian descent is eligible to represent Croatia or Switzerland at senior level. His current Under-21 international record stands at 3 goals in 9 games..

Although the 21-year-old still has 2 years left on his existing contract, Wenger will no doubt be contemplating Schalke’s £7 million asking price for the forward this summer. However, would he be a good acquisition for the Gunners?

In my opinion, I feel there are better options out there than Mario Gavranovic. Although he is still young and has impressed in Europe this season, I just don’t think he is the right man for Arsenal. If Arsene Wenger truly wants to acquire a front-man this summer, in order to bulk up his attack for next season, then the Frenchman should seek out a more prolific and lethal striker than Schalke’s Mario Gavranovic.

Plain and simple, not worth the money, Arsenal experience players, not players who have promise for the future. Wenger buy some experience players because clearly the current team is not good enough.
