Jamie Redknapp: ‘This can still be a monumental season for Arsenal’

|

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp believes Arsenal’s season could still be a monumental one, providing they pick themselves up and get back on track as quickly as possible. You couldn’t be more right Jamie.

Arsenal, who were chasing a historical quadruple, are now pinning their hopes on a domestic double after failing to beat Birmingham City in the Carling Cup final in late February, and earlier in the week, knocked out of the Champions League by La Liga champions Barcelona. A lot can happen in just 9 days.

However, the former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder still feels the Gunners can end their trophy drought this season, but must show their desire and willingness to compete for the remaining trophies, especially this Saturday against Manchester United in the F.A Cup. Redknapp told Sky Sports:

‘It probably helps that they are playing Manchester United in the FA Cup, because if they can beat them on Saturday, I do think they can go on and win the Premier League, I really do. That is a big ‘if’ though.’

‘This can still be a monumental season for Arsenal but right now I worry what Tuesday night did to them and, just as importantly, their manager.’

He added:

‘I was sitting on the touchline in Barcelona and I have never seen him so distraught, I’ve never seen Arsene Wenger hurting so much.’

In my estimation, Jamie Redknapp is spot on. Arsenal are capable of lifting both the F.A Cup and Premier League title this season, but they must forget about what happened at the Camp Nou. If they can overcome United at Old Trafford this Saturday, then they are in a great position to win the competition. Whilst the Premier League is still wide open.

It’s refreshing to see several Arsenal players believing that they can still make this season an epic one for the fans and the club. On Tuesday night, after their 3-1 loss to Baarcelona, Jack Wilshere, Johan Djourou and Samir Nasri all used their Twitter account to ‘tweet’ and inform Arsenal supporters that they are still fighting for success this season:

‘We have to pick ourselfs up now…win Saturday and then keep going strong in the league….still could be our year!’ – Jack Wilshere

‘We will continue to fight until the end of the championship.’ – Johan Djourou

‘Thank you for your support once again u were amazing sorry for the result now we have to think about Man utd game and we still have a league’ – Samir Nasri

There is still a lot to play for this season for Wenger and co. Arsenal must simply take each game as it comes, and if they can perform to the standards that they’re truly capable of, then they will no doubt capture, one, or both trophies come the end of May.

Here is an inspirational video for every Arsenal fan to have a look at:

Jamie is 100% correct. Arsenal can still do the double, but they need to stop feeling sorry for themselves. However, many Arsenal seasons have panned out like this one which ended in no silverware, hope this year is different. Good article mate.

The double is on guys, and yes Jamie is right, this could still be a great season for the Gunners. Let’s hope everything goes well for s from here on in. If they beat United on Saturday then they will have the edge over them when they visit the Emirates in the upcoming weeks.

I agree with the legend that is Jamie Redknapp. Arsenal’s season can still be great but they need to put the Barca loss behind them and focus on each game that comes. First, Arsenal need to focus on beating Man Utd in the FA Cup, if they do, they will surely be favourites to win the cup. Then they need to focus on the league games and really show the whole world what Arsenal football club are capable of.
