Following his sensational performance against Barcelona on Wednesday night, Jack Wilshere has deservedly grabbed all the headlines as well as Cesc Fabregas’ admiration, after the Arsenal skipper hailed the 19-year-old midfielder as a football phenomenon.
Wilshere clearly held his own against Barcelona duo Xavi and Andres Iniesta in midfield, and quite frankly, outclassed both Spaniards at the Emirates, which has led to Cesc Fabregas praising his young team-mate. The 23-year-old told The Sun today:
‘Jack is a phenomenon, he already looks a world-class star. He’s a great lad too, with an English heart but with Spanish quality.’
Fabregas also mentioned that Wilshere reminds him a lot of himself, and deserves the recent praise he’s receiving:
‘It’s difficult to compare him to someone, but he reminds me of myself a lot. When I started the boss put his trust in me more and more. Now he’s a regular starter at the heart of our midfield. He started at just 17. He trains hard and gives everything and has earned his place in the starting line-up.’
To commemorate the occasion, Wilshere received two Barcelona shirts as souvenirs from Lionel Messi and his hero Xavi. Although, I truly believe it should have been the other way round. Oh well, maybe next time.

Wilshere played absolutely brilliant against Barca. Before the game I thought he wouldn’t be able to cope with the pressure, but I was totally wrong. He really stood out and that performance has made the rest of the world really notice him. I also rated him highly before the game but after that game my expectations of him have gone even higher.
