All or nothing warns Arsenal’s Squillaci

|

Arsenal centre-back Sebastien Squillaci has warned his team-mates that a defeat against Wolves tomorrow could all but end their title hopes this season.

The Gunners have been in poor form as of late, losing to Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League and this past Saturday crashed to their third Premier League defeat of the season at the hands of Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium.

The 30-year-old defender, who arrived from Sevilla in a £4 million deal last summer, believes Arsenal must get back to winning ways, and sees Molineux as the destination for the revival to ensue. Quoted in the Daily Mail today, Squillaci spoke of Arsenal’s recent poor form and said:

‘We’re still third in the Premier League and top of group stage in the Champions League. But when you played for a team like Arsenal, after two defeats you need to respond. A great team doesn’t concede three defeats in a row. So the next game will be really important, we need to show that Arsenal is a great team. We need to respond well at Wolves on Wednesday.”

There’s no doubt about it, Arsenal must ensure that they grab all the points against Wolves tomorrow in order to keep the pressure on league leaders and champions Chelsea. The defeat this past Saturday at the Emirates Stadium was a disappointing one, even more so because Chelsea also lost to Liverpool at Anfield a few hours after. The French defender believes it was another chance to gain ground in the title race but was once again thrown away:

“The result is a shame because we had the opportunity to get back on Chelsea and Manchester and to make a gap on teams behind us.”

Despite the loss to Newcastle, Arsenal still sit in third place in the Premier League, 5 points behind Chelsea. However, many fans will agree with Squillaci’s assessment of tomorrow’s game, but may not agree that their team are out of the title race after just 12 games. One thing is for sure though, the performance levels of the players must be raised, and more importantly all 3 points must be grabbed if in fact Arsenal are considered to be real title contenders this season.

Squillaci is right, we must win this game or forget it, we must keep on winning and hope Chelsea slip up again so we can make ground on them.

We blew a massive chance to make ground on Chelsea last weekend, Liverpool did us a favour and we blew it against Newcastle. What a joke, I can see us doing this many time so I think we won’t win the title.
