Arsenal will have to fend off Real Madrid if they want to sign Andre Silva, according to the Daily Star.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with the Porto striker, with reports last month claiming the club have sent scouts to watch the 21-year-old this season, and are now weighing up a £20 million deal this month.

Porto’s current financial situation means that they could be forced to sell some of their big-name players this month, but it’s thought that Silva will not be one of them.

However, with Real Madrid’s transfer ban up in the summer, the La Liga club will be free to enter the race for Silva’s signature, which could pose a problem in Arsenal’s pursuit of the Portuguese forward.

Contrary to reports, Arsene Wenger will highly unlikely sign a striker this month as the he has the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and the returning Danny Welbeck at his disposal.

However, the Frenchman is keeping his eyes open for potential frontmen and possibly sees Silva as a long-term replacement to Sanchez, should the Chilean decide to leave the club.
