Wolfsburg are preparing a bid for Argentinian striker Maximiliano Romero, according to fussballtransfers.com.

The starlet was on the verge of completing a €6million (£5 million) switch to Arsenal in 2015 but a serious cruciate knee ligament injury led to the move being cancelled.

Romero is still only 17 years of age but has been dubbed the “mini Messi” by some supporters. Whether he lives up to that tag only time will tell but the Velez Sarsfield player looks to have done enough to warrant interest from European sides, with Chelsea also believed to be in the mix.

Fussballtransfers.com report that Wolsburg’s sponsors Volkswagen have connections in Argentina that have led to them signing among others Andrea D’Alessandro and Diego Klimowicz in the past, and sporting director Klaus Allofs is looking to use the links to sign Romero.

Romero has only recently made his first appearances for the Velez first team, making his debut against CA Sarmiento in February. He scored three goals in five starts last season. This campaign though he has yet to score in his first nine outings.
