Arsenal youngster Joao Virginia has put pen to paper on a new deal at the Emirates.

The 17-year-old goalkeeper is a part of the Arsenal Under-18 squad, and has also featured for the club’s UEFA Under-19 Youth League side.

The Portuguese shot-stopper was in his nation’s Olympic squad which made it to the quarter-finals stage in Rio 2016, and has also represented his country at other youth levels in the past.

But the teenager’s most impressive performance came last season when he helped the Gunners Under-17 side team win the ABN AMRO future cup. Virginia saved three penalties in a shoot-out against Belgian side Anderlecht in the final, with Arsenal winning 4-2. Virginia is clearly confident and able in the penalty saving department, having also saved two spot-kicks against Barcelona in the semi-final.

As a result of his fine performances between the sticks, the Portuguese starlet has been tied down until 2019.

Arsenal fans will now get to see the Virginia rise through the ranks at the club, with the youngster also hoping to feature for the senior side in the future.
