Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy has stated that Arsenal’s style of play was a key reason why he rejected the Gunners’ advances over the summer.
The England international had a phenomenal 2015-16, with his goals firing the Foxes to an unlikely Premier League title success and earning him global recognition.
However, after carefully deliberation, Vardy opted to spurn a move to the Emirates Stadium and instead penned a new and improved contract with Claudio Ranieri’s men.
The Englishman has revealed that he was concerned over the North London side’s style of play not suiting him and as such he felt he was better served by staying at Leicester.
“With people like Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil creating chances, Arsenal felt they could benefit me as much as I could them,” Vardy wrote in his new autobiography, serialised by The Sun.
“But I also thought about the tactical aspect.
“You look at Arsenal’s style of play and they don’t get the ball forward quickly in the same way Leicester do for those runs I like to make in behind the defence.”
Arsenal moved on from Vardy’s decision and signed Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna to provide Arsene Wenger with an additional option in the final third.
