Roberto JimenezFollowing the club’s 2-0 home loss to West Ham last Sunday, fans, ex-players and pundits alike are urging Arsene Wenger to add a new striker to the squad.

Karim Benzema continues to be linked and looks to go the distance this summer, but it appears the Gunners are considering adding another goalkeeper – Olympiacos’ Roberto Jimenez, according to reports in Spain.

The 29-year-old Spaniard has a £4.3 million buyout clause in his current deal at the Greek club, where he made 40 appearances last season.

Arsene Wenger allowed Wojciech Szczesny to go on a season-long loan to Roma and despite David Ospina still at the Emirates, it is thought the Colombian shot-stopper wants to play regularly this season, hence a loan could be on the cards this summer.

And Spanish newspaper Marca now claim Arsenal have submitted an ‘important’ offer to Olympiacos for Jimenez, but the Greek champions are holding out on the Gunners meeting the Spaniard’s release clause.

Should Arsenal sign Jimenez then he would undoubtedly arrive at the Emirates as a back-up goalie to Petr Cech.

If Ospina wants regular first-team football then Wenger should seek out a club for him, preferably a Premier League one. Should a loan move ensue for the Colombian, then the club must sign a new shot-stopper as back-up to Cech, and for £4.3 million, Jimenez would be a good option.
