Joel CampbellDespite starring for Costa Rica in the World Cup over the summer, Joel Campbell has only managed to start one game for Arsenal this season, in the Capital One Cup.

And due to the lack of first-team opportunities it’s been reported that the 22-year-old is ready to leave the Emirates at the earliest opportunity – and who can blame him.

Campbell signed for Arsenal in 2011 but only managed to obtain a work permit this season and has been included in the squad several times already but has only featured briefly thus far.

But the Costa Rican forward is already considering his future at the Emirates and is keen on a move away this January to play regularly.

Campbell has grown frustrated and was left disillusioned after Arsene Wenger refused to let him join Benfica in August.

Campbell had hoped that he would feature more times than he has after a superb World Cup showing in Brazil but it hasn’t proved to be the case.

And after signing Danny Welbeck, his chances of more games has depleted drastically. And if that wasn’t bad enough, Olivier Giroud is set to begin first-team training in the upcoming fortnight which could see Wenger grant Campbell’s wish of letting him go this January.

It would be a shame to see him leave the club but he obviously isn’t in Wenger’s plans and with Giroud only a few weeks away and Welbeck the Frenchman’s first-choice striker, it’s in Campbell’s best interest to consider his next move.

Teams will be interested in Campbell and Wenger should let him go if he’s not going to utilize his talent.

What I don’t understand is why Arsenal didn’t cash in after his stock leaped up following his World Cup heroics when it is very clear that he has no long-term future at the club. What with the likes of the Ox and Gnabry so young and showing such promise. Another evidence of gross lack of foresight on the part of those who run the club.

Play him or sell him. In fact use the lessons learnt and clean up the team, get rid of the deadwood non committed players (we all know who they are) and start playing the Arsenal footballer deserve to see. Sod the excuses. Arsenal need defensive players add incoming funds to our transfer kitty and buy a couple of quality defenders and a descent midfielder.
    Long live the Arsenal
