Curtains for Wenger at the end of the season? [have your say]

Before the West Brom game last weekend, I said if we failed to bag all three points Arsene Wenger should seriously consider handing in his resignation. Thankfully, for Wenger and us (the fans), we won the game – even if it was through two penalties – and, as a result, it took some pressure off the Frenchman’s shoulders. We were happy and many thought after the victory we turned a corner. But it seemed we were all wrong.

Arguably, last night was one of the grimmest nights to date to be an Arsenal fan. We got thrown out of the Capital One Cup – a trophy which was undoubtedly acquirable – by League Two’s Bradford City…Bradford City!!!

Despite producing nearly 30 attempts on goal and playing just over 120 minutes, Arsenal could only manage a 1-1 draw against the lower league side and were eventually beaten on pens (3-2) by a team worth £7,500!

Following their latest shock defeat, many Arsenal fans have called for Wenger’s head, asking for either the board to get rid of Le Boss or for the Frenchman to do the honourable act and leave the club on his on accord.

Intrigued to know what fans out there thought about the defeat, I immediately turned on talkSPORT and listened to the ‘Sports Bar Show’ with Jason Cundy and although the former Chelsea man thinks Wenger’s time at the club is coming to an end, he doesn’t believe he should this instance. And I’m inclined to agree with him. There is no point of him being sacked or walking away from the club, not until at least until the end of the season.

Needless to say this is Wenger’s darkest time at Arsenal FC since his arrival in 1996. He finds his side 15 points – after just 16 games – behind Premier League leaders Manchester United, knocked out of the Capital One Cup – a trophy he should’ve been contending for in the final – and faces the prospect of playing a really strong team in the next phase of the Champions League. Our only salvation this season is to finish in the top four (again) and try to win the FA Cup.

This winter transfer window will prove to be a very significant one in Wenger’s reign and if he doesn’t utilize it wisely, it could, could be curtains for the wiley old Frenchman come the summer.

Two weeks ago the soap opera was at Stamford bridge and on Sunday the writing was on the wall for Roberto mancini just now it’s Wengers turn. We’ve lost stupidly and insipidly before and we will again,so I wouldntadvocate throwing the baby out with the bathwater.Wenger isn’t going so well just now but football is beautifully unpredictable and we’ve seen him and his teams improve drastically post Christmas before. It might be time that us arsenal fans massed behind OUR team and OUR club(and it is our club) instead of filling the desperate pens of sun journalists with their vox populi and online surveys.Bad and all as recent displays have been,I would sooner have the urbane intelligent Wenger as our leader than the petulant childish Mourinho or anyone else you would care to mention.I hear some fans calling for Guardiola to come and save us but his brilliance to me seems largely founded on the astonishing messi and the fruits of cruyff’s la masia structure.Wenger should be ok he just needs to make a couple of changes in personnel in the midfield and up front and we should be fine.

before. It might be time that arsenal fans massed behin. d O

Although i do not want wenger to leave I have to question his judgement of bringing on the likes of Chamak instead of fielding players that want to make an impression on the club.
It is clear now that Gervinho is never going to make it at Arsenal I the African cup cannot come sooner in my opinion.
There was also the 5 minutes that Ramsey stayed on the pitch when clearly it could be seen that he could not play after the kick to the face.
I TRULY hope that wenger can get rid of the useless players that we have assembled & get some class acts in> i believe the foundations are there & hopefully with a little bit of luck we will get over this hump>

Funnily enough Chamakh actually started his Arsenal career impressively before fading.Ithink that he has suffered from being unable(obviously) to displace vanPersie from our first eleven.I think with a little bit of decent man management he could be a useful squad player.Gervinho needs to go away to the Cup of nations and either learn to play with some level of intelligence and consistency or resign himself to not playing a la Arshavin.Luckily we already have two decent wide players in ox and Theo when fit.Our team is short of confidence but not skill or ability.A couple of decent results over Christmas and we’ll be motoring again

Wenger has run outof ideas you can not keep on startin ramsy n loosing. about contract issues wenger is the poorest manager on the planet you cnt watch Samir n cess stall sgning new contracts then RvP is injured n dnt take tht advantge to extend his contract u wait till his demand increases n hs a year left thn u start negotiating you stil not learn frm tht u hv Walcot in the nxt rebellion. you sell song n Rvp who were th best players of th season thn yu buy 3 new players who yu dnt knw hw to use them. 3 in 2 out=1 average player yu cnt move an inch with such management.

  • ivorstephens says:

That is the problem with freedom of contract and the individual footballer. There is nothing you can do to keep an unhappy footballer and those three all wanted to go for whatever reason.Youll notice that we won nothing while those three were with us indeed we bottled two leagues one European cup semi I’m going to support my club and it’s manager. I still have faithand a couple of domestic cups with them
