Arsenal are reportedly monitoring the progress of Atletico Madrid youngster Oliver Torres.

Tribalfootball.com claim the Gunners, along with Manchester City, are already ‘testing the ground, with the Spanish club said to be ‘wary’ of losing the 17-year-old before the summer transfer window shuts.

The midfielder playmaker took part and triumphed in the Under-19 Euros with Spain earlier this summer. His performances in this tournament supposedly attracted interest from the abovementioned Premier League sides.

However, a move away from the Estadio Vicente Calderon is not on Torres’ mind, not even a temporary one:

‘I would not accept a loan deal because that would be hard for me.

‘I have had a chance to leave before and I have not done so because my dream has always been to stay here and be a success with Atletico de Madrid.

‘Now I hope that one day Cholo (coach Diego Simeone) has confidence in me and I can show him that I am ready.

‘I am conscious that I am still only 17 and that I have to work hard in order to succeed.’

He went onto say:

‘After winning the European youth championship, Simeone came up to me and told me to introduce myself to the first-team. I did as he said, feeling like a child again.

‘If I have done something to catch his attention then the rest is now in my hands. I hope that, one day, I can get his trust and prove that I am ready for the step up.

‘I’ve had the opportunity to leave in the past, but stayed because all I want is to succeed at Atletico Madrid. The players I model myself on are Xavi and [Andres] Iniesta.’

Well it appears Simeone is highly keen to hang on to the youngster after adding him to the squad for their trip to LA.

I wouldn’t mind Arsene Wenger eventually signing this kid, as his movement (off and on the ball) and ball control are pretty good. He’s also a neat and tidy player and keeps things simple which is always a sign of a good player in my book.

But we need to acquire an experienced playmaker rather than a newbie this summer – someone like Alan Dzagoev would do the trick.
