Ian Wright has urged Arsenal to sign Georginio Wijnaldum as Mikel Arteta looks to add another midfielder to his squad.

The Spaniard admitted on Friday that he is ‘very short’ of midfield options with Thomas Partey at the AFCON and Ainsley Maitland-Niles set to join Roma on loan for the remainder of the season:

‘We are very, very short at the moment, so obviously we are going to move, and we are going to look for options, because we are very short.’

One midfielder who has been linked with a move to the Emirates is former Liverpool man Wijnaldum who Wright believes would be an ‘amazing’ signing for the Gunners:

‘I saw Wijnaldum’s name [linked with Arsenal]. That would be amazing. A loan signing from PSG.

‘Someone like that in the midfield. Of that experience. He is a Premier League winner. Just to help with the youngsters and a Sambi Lokonga just to keep it going.

‘Then, they can add to the squad and, all of a sudden, Arsenal can start challenging and challenging seriously.’

Wijnaldum, who has featured 26 times and scored six goals and created one for PSG thus far this season, would certainly add the much needed depth in Arsenal’s midfield and boasts precious Premier League experience and has a winning mentality.

A loan move for the Dutchman this January looks more probable than a permanent one having only joined PSG last summer from Liverpool.

Bruno Guimaraes of Lyon and AC Milan’s Franck Kessie have also been linked with the Gunners.
