Arsenal are reportedly keen on acquiring Palmerias youngster Danilo as the Gunners look to bolster their midfield.

Mikel Arteta recently stated that he is ‘very short’ of options in midfield having let Ainsley Maitland-Niles leave for Roma on loan for the remainder of the season and Thomas Partey away with Ghana at the African Cup of Nations, and the Spaniard could look to bring a new recruit in this month.

Brazilian news outlet R7 now claim Arsenal have lodged a bid worth up to £21million for midfielder Danilo, though a deal could prove tricky to pull off.

Palmerias are keen to keep hold of the 20-year-old, who still has three-years left to run on his current deal at the Brazilian club.

Danilo, who is highly-rated by Palmerias, has a reported release clause of £86million, a figure which eclipses Arsenal proposed offer of £21million.

However, It could still prove to be enough for Palmerias to accept if Danilo pushes for the move.

Arsenal technical director Edu is believed to be leading the chase for the young midfielder and has a vast knowledge of Brazilian football having signed Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano and Pablo Mari from Flamengo in recent years.
