Arsenal are reportedly keen on a January move for Barcelona outcast Riqui Puig.

It is suggested by The Athletic (via Metro) that Mikel Arteta wants to bring in an attacking midfielder next month having failed to do so over the summer.

Arsenal have lacked creativity this season and have netted just 15 goals in 15 games in the Premier League thus far – only four other sides have scored less.

RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku, Norwich’s Emiliano Buendia and Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt are all possible targets for Arteta, but Puig remains the most likely option with Barcelona keen to move him on.

Puig is regarded as a promising talent by the Barcelona hierarchy, but the 21-year-old has fallen out-of-favour with Ronald Koeman over leaking information from inside the dressing room.

Its claimed that Puig has been on Arsenal’s radar for some time and the club have scouted him on several occasions before the coronavirus pandemic hit.

Its now expected that Barcelona will make Puig available on loan next month and Arsenal could face some competition for his signature.

Puig has played just 77 minutes of football under Koeman this season, claiming the Spaniard’s work-rate is not good enough.
