Napoli are interested in signing Sokratis, according to reports in Italy.

The 32-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at the Emirates and has fallen down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta.

The Greek centre-back did not feature once for the Gunners when the season restarted, with Arteta preferring the services of David Luiz, Kieran Tierney, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding at the back.

Sokratis’ playing time may be further limited this season following the arrival of Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille, with Arteta now having up to nine centre-backs at his disposal, including Konstantinos Mavropanos, who has been sent out on a season-long loan to German side VfB Stuttgart.

Arteta will have to sell to raise funds for new recruits this summer and according to Sky Italy, Sokratis is one of the players on the exit list.

Napoli are believed to be keen on signing a centre-back as a potential replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly, who is wanted by Manchester City, and have target the Arsenal centre-back. The Serie A side will however be hoping to acquire Sokratis without a transfer fee.
