Fenerbahce are reportedly pushing forward with a move for Mesut Ozil.

The 31-year-old’s £350k-a-week contract at the Emirates expires at the end of next season and has been heavily criticised in recent seasons for his performances by several Arsenal fans and the media alike.

His monstrous salary has seen potential suitors shy away from making a move for the German playmaker, who has stated that he is happy to remain at Arsenal for the foreseeable future.

Fenerbahce has previously been linked with a move for Ozil, who himself has stated that he would love to play for the Turkish club one day.

And according to a close friend of the German international, Fenerbahce are ‘working hard’ on a transfer.

In an interview with SportX, TV host and big Fenerbahce fan Acun Ilicali now claims Ozil’s next move could take him to Turkey:

‘I receive lots of questions about Mesut Ozil.

‘I believe in the future the good things will happen. I’m not in a position to give details but I know our president is also working hard for this.

‘When his contract with Arsenal will expire, the favourites would be Fenerbahce. We are also working on that front.

‘I really wanted to tell you in more detail, but I cannot. We’ll talk about these things when the time comes.’

Although Ozil has featured regularly for Mikel Arteta this season, it remains unclear if the 2014 World Cup winner will remain at Arsenal beyond 2021 with talks of an extension to his current deal on hold.

Should Ozil be put up for sale this summer, it may prove difficult for the Gunners to find a club interested in offering and matching the player’s wage demands.
