Villareal defender and rumoured Arsenal target Pau Torres has revealed he is taking English lessons as he prepares for a potential move to England.
The 23-year-old has made 24 appearances for the Yellow Submarine this season and former Arsenal man Santi Cazorla has confirmed in the past that his old club are interested.
Torres is said to have a £43m release clause in his current Villareal deal, which could prove to be beyond Arsenal’s price range.
Nonetheless, the Spaniard appears to preparing for a move to England, telling a recent interview with El Periodico Mediterraneo: “In the morning I do the training regime and then I do the food following the guidelines established by the club.
“In the afternoon, after lunch, I study a few languages because I was learning English and now is a good time to resume it.”
Speaking in an interview with Marca in February, the midfielder admitted that the North London club were interested in both Torres and fellow teammate Samuel Chukwueze, who plays on the wing.
“Yeah, mainly my Arsenal friends,” Cazorla responded when asked who he had spoken to.
“They ask me about them and they think that they can make the jump to the Premier League soon.
“Those two have great personalities and their feet are on the ground.”
The Gunners are likely to require significant investment in their squad this summer after a difficult season, where they have slipped to ninth in the Premier League table.
New head coach Mikel Arteta was able to bring in Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari on loan during the January transfer window, but is yet to sign anyone on a permanent basis.
