Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Chelsea’s Willian on a free transfer this summer with David Luiz helping the Gunners to secure the deal.

The 31-year-old’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires on June 30 and has been linked with a move away after talks of an extension with Chelsea have broken down.

Willian is resigned to leaving Chelsea this summer after the Brazilian was seeking a new three-year deal which the West London rejected.

However, Willian has previously expressed his desire to stay in the capital rather than seek a move elsewhere and Arsenal are interested.

Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool have also been linked with the Brazil international, yet ESPN’s Jorge Nicola claims the player’s representatives see Arsenal as the most viable destination this summer:

“Arsenal are a little ahead today, but everything is still open.

“Especially because the pandemic affected the entire financial reality of football in the world.”

Its also thought that Willian’s close friend and former Chelsea teammate Luiz, who signed for Arsenal last summer from Chelsea, could be a deciding factor in the winger’s decision.
