Arsenal target Pau Torres has been learning English after the Gunners asked Santi Cazorla about the Villarreal defender.

The defender has been in impressive form for the La Liga club after returning from his loan stint with Malaga.

It’s believed the Gunners were pondering a January move for the Spaniard before signing Pablo Mari from Flamengo on loan.

Torres has a £43million release clause in his current deal at Villarreal but remains high on Arsenal’s wish list.

And the Gunners will be pleased to hear that Torres is keen on a potential move to the Premier League and is learning English to pass the time whilst football is suspended due to the Coronavirus crisis.

He told El Periodico Mediterraneo (via The Sun):

“In the morning I do the training regime and then I eat in line with the guidelines established by the club.

“In the afternoon, after lunch, I study a few languages ??because I was learning English and now is a good time to resume it.”

It was confirmed in February by former Gunner Cazorla that Arsenal rang the Spaniard to ask about a potential transfer for his Villarreal teammate.

When asked about the phone call, Cazorla admitted that the call was about Torres:

“Yes, friends from Arsenal especially.

“They ask me about them and think they can make the jump to the Premiership tomorrow.”
