Real Madrid have joined Arsenal in the race to sign RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish news publication AS claims the Bernabeu outfit are the latest club to express their interest in the 21-year-old, who is reportedly set to hand in a transfer request if his £55million release clause is not activated this summer.

Real Madrid will have to fork out at least £55million for the defender but they will face stiff competition from Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Arsenal, with the Gunners reportedly long-term admirers.

During an interview with RMC Sport last month, Upamecano confirmed he will consider his options at the end of the season:

“There are several clubs that want me.

“I will speak with my agents and my parents at the end of the season and we will make the right decision.”

However, it appears Real Madrid and Barcelona will be favourites to land Upamecano this summer after the Frenchman revealed in 2018 that his dream was to play for one of the Spanish giants:

“When you’re young, you dream of Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester United.

“But to get there, you have to work.”

Arsenal have been monitoring Upamecano’s progress with interest, but the Gunners will have their work cut out to land him ahead of those keen on his services this summer.
