Diego Simeone has no intention of leaving Atletico Madrid to manage Arsenal this season, according to Guillem Balague.
The BBC journalist revealed that the Gunners have made no contact with the Argentinian who has been in charge of the La Liga club for eight years after taking over in 2011.
Balague shared on his personal Twitter account that Simeone has no immediate plans of moving to Emirates Stadium this year or even next season, with his immediate plans at Atletico.
Diego Simeone has no intention of leaving At. Madrid, has had no contact from #Arsenal now or in the past and it's not in his immediate plans (say, next year) to go to Arsenal or any other PL club. It is suggested that the 49-year-old is in the middle of a transition phase at the Spanish club, and he would like to keep working on that in the future.
Is that the end of Simeone chase?
Not exactly.
There were recent reports by the Sun claiming that Atletico Madrid were close to sacking the South American after he had overseen a tricky period at the beginning of the La Liga campaign.
With many names being thrown in the air, any outcome remains possible and if Simeone was to leave the Spanish side then why wouldn’t Arsenal want to target him.
The 49-year-old has won the league title recently and that is something that has avoided the Gunners for many years, so he would bring the winning mentality that is so desperately needed in North London.
Simeone has a no-nonsense approach to management and Unai Emery was too much of a pushover in his reign at the Emirates, something that would change.
Should Atletico parts ways with the Argentine, Arsenal should go all out to try and secure his services as soon as possible.
