Arsenal are set to scout CSKA Sofia midfielder Valentin Antov on Sunday, according to Frog News.

The Bulgarian outlet claim on their website that the Gunners will be joined by Premier League rivals Manchester United and West Ham United watching the 19-year-old against Ludogorets.

Frog News report that Antov has already attracted interest from a number of foreign sides, especially clubs from the Premier League in the recent past.

It is suggested that the scouts from all three clubs will also be attending a game between the Elite Youth Groups of the two sides before the main clash on Sunday.

Is Antov the answer?

There is one clear area that Arsenal need to strengthen in, everyone can see that.

Unai Emery failed to address the clear problems in the Gunners’ defence, and that was part of the reason that led to his sacking at the Emirates Stadium, and the next manager must target that.

Antov can play in defence, as well as midfield but it would be hard to suggest that the 19-year-old could come in and make a difference in North London given his lack of experience.

The youngster did make his international debut in March, but it isn’t a name that will inspire many Arsenal fans to believe that their defensive problems would be solved if they brought him in.

Arsenal need to target a couple of big-name defenders, whether that be in January or the summer, to solve their problems. That takes big money, but they have put themselves in a position where they have to splash the cash after neglecting the backline in recent years.
