Tension remains at Arsenal, as Unai Emery’s sudden inclusion of Mesut Özil for tonight’s EFL Cup clash with Liverpool coming under heavy scrutiny amongst fans on Twitter.

This season, the German playmaker has so far achieved 142 minutes of football; once in the Premier League against Watford and once in the EFL Cup against Nottingham Forest.

Many journalists and fans alike have wondered what’s happened with the player, and now Emery has stated that he will be back in the team for tonight’s trip to Merseyside.

But his inclusion emerges at a time of severe problems at Arsenal following their disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace, and many fans believe that his inclusion could simply be his manager scapegoating.

What do we think?

Crisis? What crisis? Fans have been crying out for Özil to be included in the Arsenal team for some time. Now Emery has tried to appease them by finally bringing back the German who’s rarely even made the bench so far this season. Maybe the Spaniard has a trick up his sleeve for Anfield, but it certainly reads like a manager who’s using the last of his trump cards to try and save his job.
