Prior to last night’s pre-season friendly against Angers SCO, the Arsenal media department tweeted out news of the squad that would travel for the game. A number of youth players were in the side as were the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Shkodran Mustafi and Matteo Guendouzi.
The notable name missing was new arrival Nicolas Pepe who is yet to be announced as an Arsenal player. The BBC had reported earlier this week that a £72m fee was agreed between the Gunners and Lille – the winger had even been spotted arriving ahead of a medical late on Tuesday.
Arsenal fans are really eager to see their new man in action and took to Twitter to share their thoughts.
One supporter called the club heartless, saying the club needs to announce it already as fans are logging into Twitter to refresh every two minutes. This was echoed by another fan who said some fans haven’t slept yet as they waited for the announcement.
Pepe dazzled in Ligue 1 last season, scoring 22 goals whilst laying on 11 assists in 38 appearances. He also picked up the Man of the Match award in 13 games. His move to Arsenal will smash their club-record fee into pieces at a hefty £72m.
Other members of the Emirates support simply told the club to ‘announce Pepe’ over and over again. One supporter was also angry but he may have just been making a pun out of their pre-season opponents, Angers.
