Arsenal were taken to penalties in their penultimate pre-season friendly with Angers SCO on Wednesday evening after a Reiss Nelson tap-in cancelled out Farid El Melali’s 13th minute opener.
Unai Emery’s youthful looking side went on to win in a shootout with back-up goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez saving the decisive penalty from former Arsenal midfielder Jeff Reine-Adelaide.
It was the first-half performance from Nacho Monreal that drew major criticism from areas of the Emirates fanbase as Angers went into the break one goal to the good.
One supporter said the 33-year-old was finished and that he should be sold whilst another added that Monreal is a massive liability at left-back.
The Spaniard has made 248 appearances in a red shirt since coming to North London from Malaga in 2013, costing the club in the region of £8.5m.
Others felt that Monreal should no longer be anything but a back-up this season after being a great servant to the club with one fan blasting him for being a liability in general but did go on to say he should stay at the club as centre-back cover.
Some fans were less sentimental with them believing that the club will win nothing with the veteran still there – one even suggested to terminate his contract.

Monreal is a massive liability at left back. Thank god we're in for Tierney.

Monreal has been a great servant to the club, he should no longer be anything but a back up now at best. But if Tierney comes in then hes 3rd choice left back so that’s ok.

My exact feelings while watching him pathetic player

He’s a liability in general now. Still makes sense keeping him to cover at LCB in a back 5 but even there he’s not good as such anymore. Plus I don’t wanna see a back 5 anyway (and we won’t)

Genuinely never rated him highly if I’m honest and he’s been finished for a while now

Been a great servant to the club. Never claimed he was the best LB, but always gave his best. He s 33 and the years caught up with him????
