Arsenal were taken to penalties in their penultimate pre-season friendly with on Wednesday evening after a Reiss Nelson tap-in cancelled out Farid El Melali’s 13th minute opener.

Unai Emery’s youthful looking side went on to win in a shootout with back-up goalkeeper saving the decisive penalty from former Arsenal midfielder Jeff Reine-Adelaide.

It was the first-half performance from Nacho Monreal that drew major criticism from areas of the Emirates fanbase as went into the break one goal to the good.

One supporter said the 33-year-old was finished and that he should be sold whilst another added that Monreal is a massive liability at left-back.

The Spaniard has made 248 appearances in a red shirt since coming to North London from Malaga in 2013, costing the club in the region of £8.5m.

Others felt that Monreal should no longer be anything but a back-up this season after being a great servant to the club with one fan blasting him for being a liability in general but did go on to say he should stay at the club as centre-back cover.

Some were less sentimental with them believing that the club will win nothing with the veteran still there – one even suggested to terminate his contract.
