Arsenal’s pursuit of Wilfried Zaha has been very well-documented over the summer and with Crystal Palace demanding a fee of £80m, a number of bids well short of that number have been rejected. The Independent report their latest offer has also been rebuffed – thought to be a £55m deal plus add-ons as well as including a temporary switch for highly-rated winger Reiss Nelson to help settle the damage lost through a Zaha departure. The idea of the young 19-year-old leaving as a result has left many Arsenal fans angry.

Nelson spent time away from the club on loan last season with Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga where he made 29 appearances, scoring seven goals. Unai Emery, with help from new assistant coach Freddie Ljungberg, has given the youngster the chance to impress during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States and so far he has done so. Therefore, it remains unclear whether a first-team spot is available for him for this upcoming Premier League campaign.

Many of the Emirates fanbase took to Twitter to share their discontent at letting the starlet leave the club in any capacity this summer with one demanding they learn from their mistakes whilst another echoed this, referencing Serge Gnabry who departed North London for a paltry £4.5m three years ago and has since gone on to win Bayern Munich’s Player of the Season accolade.

Others claim that Nelson will be much better than Zaha in a few years time – Nelson is only 19 years old whilst Zaha will have had his 27th birthday before the turn of the year. One supporter blasted the Ivory Coast international as overhyped which seems to be a reoccurring theme amongst the reaction with another member of the Arsenal faithful stating it was nonsense and was left wondering why the club were so obsessed with the winger.
