According to Soccer Link, Arsenal have begun discussions with their French central midfielder Matteo Guendouzi over extending his contract past its current expiry date in 2022, which has left many fans at the Emirates delighted.
Guendouzi joined the club last summer from Ligue 2 outfit Lorient for a fee in the region of £8m. He featured in 48 matches in all competitions last season, splitting his time between central midfield and a much deeper role. He picked up 12 yellow cards and one red card in that time too.
It was also recently revealed that the 20-year-old had some influence on the signing of William Saliba after the pair met, coincidentally, at a funfair in Paris. Guendouzi has also only just returned to training on Friday after an extended period of time off due to his participation in this summer’s Under-21 European Championship.
A number of Arsenal supporters took to social media to share their thoughts on the possible contract extension with one fan claiming the news was bigger than the arrival of Nicolas Pepe, stating that Guendouzi will be the best central midfielder on the planet within the next four years.
Others reinforced this view by labelling the starlet as a top talent and that he’s got the attitude and attributes to become a commanding midfielder for the club. Many also stated that it was fully deserved.

Looks like we’ve entered negotiations with Guendouzi over a new and improved contract.
Fully deserved. Would love to see him stay at Arsenal for many years and thrive!
At such a young age he’s got the attitude and attributes to become a commanding midfielder for us.
