Over the years, Arsenal fans have learned not to get too excited about transfer rumours. With supporters eagerly expecting incomings having spent nothing in January, any addition would likely be welcome at the Emirates Stadium.
However, judging by the reaction to this, that could not be said for one player in particular.
Last winter, Ivan Perisic was linked with a move to North London as Unai Emery searched for a wide player to join the ranks.
Perisic had not long led Croatia towards a World Cup final – in which he scored – but failure to secure a deal with Inter Milan saw Emery plump for the disappointing Denis Suarez instead.
But when asked if they would welcome the £27m-rated winger to the club this summer, fans were pretty unequivocal in their response – no thanks.
Arsenal are still thought to be chasing a wide midfielder in the transfer market – with talks reportedly ongoing for 25-year-old Belgian Yannick Carrasco – who was also said to be under consideration in the previous window.
However, Gunners supporters would be far from pleased if Emery revisited another former target – with his age, price tag and the need for a defender leading the fans’ case against the Croat:
No way. 2 seasons ago yes for sure. And arsenal were right, even if we had the money, he was never worth £30m at the time. We can and must look at a higher calibre of player without getting taken advantage of.
