The usual reaction to a player signalling their intentions to stay at their club would be pure relief – but Arsenal fans are anything but usual.

So when Granit Xhaka outlined his desire to stay in North London – amid links to a potential switch to Inter Milan – it wasn’t majorly surprising a lot of fans weren’t best pleased by the news.

According to Swiss publication Blick (via The Sun), the midfielder insisted that despite the promise of Champions League football elsewhere, he is happy and settled at Arsenal – and has set his sights on gaining the captaincy.

And with a big-money move now seemingly off the cards, Gooners have expressed their dismay as the Swiss international looks set to extend his stay.

Xhaka has often been a source of frustration for some Gunners fans since his move in 2016 from Borussia Monchengladbach, due to his disciplinary record and errors leading to goals – which were exposed on international duty in the Nations League last week.

With Arsenal potentially looking to cash in having been left with a modest budget to acquire new players this summer, these fans may be disappointed that selling the £45m-rated Xhaka might be more unlikely than first thought:
