It seemed like only yesterday Arsenal fans were looking to cash in on Lucas Torreira as AC Milan reportedly circle around The Gunners’ midfield man.

Oh wait, that was yesterday.

But it seems the situation has Arsenal fans more divided than first thought, with supporters looking like having a collective change of heart – judging by their immediate reaction to the Uruguayan’s progress to the Copa America quarter-finals.

Torreira didn’t even play a part in his country’s 1-0 win over Chile that saw Uruguay top their group – but Arsenal’s offer of congratulations was almost completely ignored by fans worried about his possible departure.

Far more concerned with the 23-year-old’s future, Gooners took to the club’s official Twitter page with demands to keep the promising midfielder amid rumours of his unhappiness at living in England.

With Torreira impressing during his first season at The Emirates, it looks as if these fans are dreading the possibility of letting him go so soon after his arrival.

As Arsenal’s lack of cash provides a potential positive outcome to any lucrative deal from the player’s sale, supporters seem split over what is best from the club’s point of view as the debate swings the other way:
