Paul Merson wants Arsenal to sign Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire, but the former Gunner doesn’t believe the club will spend the money to do so.
Arsenal have been in good form this season, but not good enough to warrant using Mobilebet voucher codes on them winning the title and frailties at the back are still visible and need addressing if they are to finish the remainder of the campaign on a high.
Unai Emery has admitted that he would like to sign a new centre-back this month and several, including the likes of Eric Bailly, Gary Cahill and Mario Hermoso, have been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks.
However, Merson believes Arsenal should look to Maguire but the 25-year-old could cost up to £50million should he leave Leicester and that is a concern for the former Gunner:
“He’s 100 times better than what they’ve got.
“But it would be £60m, £70m, £80m wouldn’t it. I think that’s a lot of money.
“It is [important] for Arsenal [to spend money on the defence], 100 per cent for Arsenal. They need to sort that out.
“I’m sure he [Emery] will have players up his sleeve. This manager is not silly, he’s been a good manager in Spain.
“He would have watched enough videos on Arsenal and known they weren’t good enough at the back and he will sort that out.
“Who knows, they might buy him [Maguire], they might.
“I’m not sure, he’s a lot of money.”
Maguire would be a good signing for Arsenal to make this month. However, the fee would pose an issue as Emery will have limited resources to spend, and other areas of the squad need addressing also.
