Unai Emery wants to see Mesut Ozil leave the Gunners before the end of the January transfer window to free up funds to bring in his own players, according to reports.

Emery has not seen eye-to-eye with Ozil this season and was once again left out of the squad entirely against West Ham on Saturday which raised a few eyebrows amongst the Arsenal faithful. It was yet another indication from Emery to the board that the creative German is dispensable.

However, despite reported interest from clubs in Turkey, Inter Milan and Manchester United, Ozil’s £350,000-a-week wages poses a huge stumbling block, combine that with the German’s agent previously revealing that the player wants to stay at Arsenal, and a move away from the Emirates looks highly improbable this month.

Emery is keen on bringing in Denis Suarez from Barcelona, but the Catalan club are stalling over a loan deal as they want Arsenal to agree to buy the player in the summer following his potential stint at the Emirates, something the Gunners are unwilling to do.

Ozil has been left out of the squad on several occasions this season, with the excuse of illness and back spasms citied by the club and manager. However, it is evident that Emery is not keen on Ozil after publicly criticising his lack of physicality and work-rate when he left the former Real Madrid playmaker out at Bournemouth.

Fans are divided with what Emery is doing with Ozil, while some want to see him in the side creating chances for his teammates, others agree with the Spaniard that he is a passenger and not up for the fight.

In any case, this situation needs a resolution and quick.
