Arsenal and Chelsea are set to battle it our for the signature of Atletico Mineiro’s wonderkid Emerson, according to reports in Brazil.
The 19-year-old is reportedly attracting interest from around Europe with clubs like Barcelona and Real Betis keeping an eye on the right-back.
However, it appears Arsenal and Chelsea are both looking to make a move for Emerson this month.
Brazilian publication UOL suggests Mineiro are facing financial difficulty and will be looking to raise around £15million from player sales this year and selling Emerson would be a good starting point.
The report goes on to say that both Premier League clubs have sent scouts to watch the full-back on multiple occasions this season and were impressed with his performances fort the Brazilian outfit.
Arsenal are looking to bolster their defensive ranks following numerous injuries in this department and see Emerson as a good competitor for both Hector Bellerin and Stephan Lichtsteiner.
Atletico Mineiro own 62.5% of Emerson’s economical right and would owe 12.5% of any transfer fee to the defender’s former club Ponte Preta if they decide to cash-in on him in the upcoming weeks.
