Arsenal don’t really do business in the January transfer window, but under new boss Unai Emery, it appears the Gunners may take a new approach for the Spaniard to achieve his goals this season.

Emery has begun life at Arsenal in a promising fashion. Despite back-to-back losses to Manchester City and Chelsea to begin his reign, the Gunners have since rallied and are currently on a 20-game unbeaten run in all competitions and occupy fifth spot in the Premier League with 31 points from 15 games so far.

However, despite their impressive run, Emery has inherited the same problems Arsene Wenger dealt with and failed to fix – this being the side’s defensive frailties. Emery has attempted to tighten the back-line with a couple of defensive-minded players over the summer, but the problem still exists with the club keeping just five clean sheets (two in the Premier League) and conceding 23 goals in all competitions to date.

The defence is the area which needs addressing the most, but there are other positions that could do with improving and adding depth to the team.

With the winter transfer window but only a few weeks away from opening and many players around Europe out of contract next summer and potentially available on a free, perhaps it would be ideal for Emery and his recruitment team to seize the opportunity to land a few on the cheap this January before things get messy.

So, here are 11 players who will be out of contract next summer but could be snapped up for the right price in January:
