Arsenal are among a trio of clubs who are interested in signing Real Valladolid defender Fernando Calero, according to reports in Spain.

The 23-year-old centre-back has started all Real Valladolid’s 15 La Liga matches so far this season and is believed to have attracted the attentions of Arsenal, Sevilla and Borussia Dortmund with his fine displays for the Spanish side.

Spanish publication, Cadena Ser, as reported by Football Espana, claim Calero’s current contract contains a £10million release clause, although it remains to be seen if any of the reportedly interested clubs will make an approach when the January transfer window opens or wait until the end of the season.

Unai Emery may well look to bring in a defender next month as Rob Holding is set to miss the rest of the season with a cruciate knee ligament injury, leaving the Spaniard short of options in this department ahead of the second-half of the campaign.
