Arsenal are interested in Borussia Dortmund Julian Weigl with head of recruitment Sven Mislintat hopeful of executing a deal for the midfielder.

The 23-year-old has fallen out-of-favour under Lucien Favre at the Signal Iduna Park, starting just two Bundesliga games so far this season, and the German could look to engineer a move away if he continues to be overlooked.

Mislintat played a pivotal role in recruiting the German international from 1860 Munich in 2015, who has since attracted interest from some of Europe’s top clubs with his performances.

Mislintat has already managed to sign three ex-Dortmund players since joining the Gunners and is reportedly targeting a move for another in Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele this January.

With Arsenal set to lose the services of Aaron Ramsey, German publication Sport Bild now claim the North London club are keen on signing Weigl.

However, Weigl’s contract runs until 2021 and Dortmund are highly unlikely to let the midfielder leave in January, unless its on a temporary basis.

Nonetheless, Arsenal will feel they will have a chance of signing the young midfielder if he continues to be limited to first-team opportunities.
