Ian Wright believes Alex Iwobi could replace Aaron Ramsey in the Arsenal line-up should the Welshman leave.
Ramsey, 27, has entered the final 12 months of his current contract and are yet to sign a new deal to remain beyond summer 2019. Despite the club reportedly agreeing a new deal for the Wales international, its understood that they later withdrew their offer and talks are currently on hold, raising doubts about his long-term future at the Emirates.
Ramsey will be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January and potentially leave Arsenal on a free next summer if the situation remains the same.
A handful of clubs are supposedly monitoring the midfielder which include Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Juventus.
Chelsea managed to sign Olivier Giroud in January, while Liverpool made a £40million deal with the Gunners for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain last summer.
Due to Ramsey’s uncertain future at Arsenal, the club have been linked with possible replacements and could see them make a move for one when the January transfer window opens.
However, Wright believes the club already have a player amongst their midst in 22-year-old Iwobi.
Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live:
“Iwobi’s form has helped the situation
“If Ramsey does leave and Iwobi can continue his consistent form, Arsenal fans would be happy with that.”
Although Iwobi has been in consistent form as of late and has played in the middle of the park in the past, many would agree that his best position is out wide.
If Ramsey does leave then Unai Emery will surely have something up his sleeve to solve this problem.
