Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has won the club’s player of the month award for August, garnering 68% of the vote from fans.
The 19-year-old has started all four Premier League games for the Gunners this season despite many believing he was signed from Lorient in the summer with the future in mind.
Fans on Twitter think Guendouzi merited the award:

Well deserved based on his performances in the first two matches. Still a lot to learn though.

So confident for a young player Good composure on the ball. He will be a regular in the French squad before long.

A couple of supporters were a bit more cynical:
When was the last time August’s winner wasn’t a new signing?

He wasn’t that good

The Frenchman has had a good start to life at the Emirates, but it has surprised many that Unai Emery has given him the nod to start ahead of Lucas Torreira.
It’s a testament to the teenager’s talent that many supporters are debating whether the manager should drop Xhaka instead of him to be able to get the talented Uruguayan into the starting eleven.
Even if Guendouzi does get relegated to bench duty in the coming months, the midfielder has shown enough in his short spell in the team that he has a bright future ahead of him.
