Fulham have signed Arsenal’s Calum Chambers on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old agreed a new four-year deal with Arsenal last month, but Unai Emery has decided to loan out the defender to newly promoted Fulham for the season in hope of him acquiring regular first-team football at Craven Cottage.

Chambers made just 12 Premier League appearances for the Gunners last season, and is still very much seen as a back-up option to the likes of Hector Bellerin and centre-back duo Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi. In addition, Emery has since brought in a couple of defensive recruitments over the summer in the shape of Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus and Sokratis from Borussia Dortmund, leaving Chambers very little opportunity to feature for Arsenal this season.

Although Arsenal have shipped Chambers out on loan for the season, it is thought that Emery is still on the hunt for one more defender before the transfer window closes with AC Milan’s Ricardo Rodriguez reportedly on the Spaniard’s radar.
