Arsenal have been active in the transfer market this summer and bolstered their midfield ranks this week with the additions of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi, though Unai Emery’s side continue to be linked with further additions.

The Gunners have been attributed with long-term interest in OGC Nice’s Ivory Coast international Jean-Michel Seri, alongside Chelsea and Napoli, but all three clubs have now missed out in relatively surprising circumstances.

26-year-old Seri has instead agreed to join newly-promoted Fulham in a deal reported to be worth around €26.5m, subject to receiving a work permit.

Seri previously had a release clause of €40 million (£35m/$47m) that expired on July 15 and Fulham’s swoop for the midfielder could prove to be a significant coup for the Cottagers ahead of their return to the top-flight.

Arsenal continue to be linked with other midfield targets, including Sevilla duo Ever Banega and Steven N’Zonzi, following the departures of Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere.
