Arsenal are accustomed to having to fend off interest in their star players but now face a different sort of battle, with reports indicating a key figure behind the scenes is being pursued.

The Sun cites reports indicating that Arsenal’s chief executive Ivan Gazidis has emerged as a target for Serie A giants AC Milan, who are looking to overhaul their off-field team in order to become financially stable.

Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali is also a candidate for AC Milan, who are now under the control of  US hedge fund Elliott Management Corporation after former owner Yonghong Li defaulted on his debts.

Milan, barred from the Europa League by UEFA after failing to meet Financial Fair Play regulations, and Gazidis has shown he can manage the finances during his time at the Emirates Stadium, refusing to pay over the odds for signings but still approving major deals in the form of Mesut Ozil and others.
