Arsenal have already bolstered their midfield ranks this summer with the captures of Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi but Unai Emery is eyeing further additions in the market.

The Gunners have already seen Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla leave on free transfers at the end of their contracts, while speculation surrounding Aaron Ramsey’s future continues to float around as he has entered the final 12 months of his deal.

That has led Emery to target a move for Barcelona outcast Andre Gomes and Sport reports the Gunners have been handed a significant boost in the market, as the Portugal international has not travelled with the LaLiga champions for their pre-season tour of the United States.

The report names both Arsenal and Juventus as potential candidates to sign 24-year-old Gomes and neither club are willing to match Barcelona’s £17.6m valuation, with it indicated a deal could be approved for a fee of £15.9m.

Gomes has struggled for form in his two years at Barcelona but caught the eye with Valencia previously, so could represent a significant coup for Arsenal.
