Arsenal are making significant changes to their ranks under the guidance of new manager Unai Emery ahead of next season, with a focus being placed on midfield.

The Gunners have already lost both Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere on free transfers, while a deal bringing Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira to the Emirates Stadium is expected to be completed imminently.

Emery will not stop there though and SportWitness cite claims from Catalan outlet Sport which indicate Arsenal are going head-to-head in the market for the services of Barcelona’s Andre Gomes, who has endured a difficult spell with the LaLiga champions.

Signed from Valencia in 2016 in the wake of Gomes’ European Championship success with Portugal, Gomes has struggled to establish himself as a regular in Ernesto Valverde’s side and now looks to be surplus to requirements – especially with Brazil prospect Arthur arriving from Gremio.

Gomes’ stock has dropped significantly in the past 12 months, especially after missing out on a spot in Portugal’s World Cup squad, and a move to the Premier League would hand him the opportunity to get his career back-on-track.
