Arsenal have been incredibly active in the transfer market ahead of Unai Emery’s first season at the Emirates Stadium and have impressed with their business.
The latest big-money addition came in the form of Uruguay international Lucas Torreira for a reported £26m fee, fresh after starring for La Celeste in their run to the World Cup quarter-finals in Russia.
22-year-old Torreira was heavily-linked with Arsenal for a number of weeks during the tournament, though confirmation of a deal was delayed until after Uruguay’s involvement, and it has now been revealed that the Gunners beat two Champions League sides in the market for his services.
Speaking to SampdoriaNews.net, Torreira’s agent Pablo Bentancourt said:
“Lucas was also requested by Borussia Dortmund, Naples and some Spanish teams, but there was a word agreement with Arsenal, everything was closed even at the club level,”
“Emery immediately had words of great appreciation towards him, as much esteem from Raul Sanllehi, ??as well as a legend such as Luis Suarez.”
