Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has been urged to turn his back on the north London rivals and to seal a move across the capital by a former Gunners player.

The England international sees his future at the Emirates Stadium shrouded by speculation as he enters the final weeks of his contract with Arsenal and the likelihood of him leaving on a free transfer is increasing by the day.

Arsenal are keen for him to put pen to paper on a new deal but Wilshere is looking for first-team assurances which the Gunners are unable to offer, which has alerted a number of sides within the Premier League.

One club linked with a move for Arsenal’s academy graduate is West Ham, with new boss Manuel Pellegrini keen on securing his services, and former Gunners man Paul Mariner has urged Wilshere to complete a transfer.

Speaking to ESPN FC, he said:

“I think if he goes to West Ham, he will be asked some serious questions, new manager in there. I would like to see Jack go to a new club. I think at West Ham there are in a little bit of rebuild phase, new manager comes in. Get yourself out there, Jack. Show everybody what you have got.”
