Unai Emery has enjoyed a busy start to life as Arsenal manager, signing Bernd Leno and Stephan Lichtsteiner – as well as widely being reported to be closing in on deals for Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Lucas Torreira.

The Spaniard remains keen on bolstering his midfield ranks, with Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere set to leave on a free transfer, and has targeted a reunion with Argentina international Ever Banega.

Banega has worked with Emery during his previous stints with Sevilla and Valencia, with Estadio Deportivo reporting Arsenal’s new manager has made a personal call to the midfielder to try to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.

29-year-old Banega, capped 63 times by Argentina, is targeted to provide depth in a creative midfield role for Arsenal, easing the burden on Mesut Ozil, and is valued at a very affordable £10.8m by TransferMarkt.

Banega made 31 LaLiga appearances for Sevilla last season, contributing three goals and three assists to his side’s cause.
