Arsenal are pushing ahead with their activity in the transfer market following the appointment of Unai Emery and look finally ready to strengthen a problem area from recent seasons.
Reports from Italy cited by The Daily Star indicate Arsenal have ‘reached an agreement’ with Serie A side Sampdoria for the services of highly-rated defensive midfielder Lucas Torreira, registering their interest with his agent.
The 22-year-old has a €25million release clause in his contract with the Italian side and is understood to be keen on a move to join the Europa League semi-finalists, though Arsenal will have to move swiftly to complete a deal.
Torreira’s clause is set to expire at the end of the month, giving Arsenal a limited timeframe to secure a deal, and the Gunners will be wary of reported interest from Borussia Dortmund and Napoli.
Demands from the youngster’s agent could prove to be the biggest stumbling block due to his financial requests and a deal is complicated further by his participation with Uruguay in the World Cup.
